Disclaimer: I’ve stated things below as if it they are facts, mostly to make it shorter and cleaner. It is my own opinion, in my own words.
Today it seems religion is used as a label, along with race, sexuality, weight, hair color, annual income, marital status, age, profession… the list goes on.
Religion should be something personal, something private. Like sexuality, it’s something that defines who you are, but not something you go shoving into people’s faces, or running around pulling out of people.
This is true on both ends of the spectrum: the whole Christians vs. Atheists argument that goes on is frankly, ridiculous. I…I won’t even go into that. I also won’t get into people in the “gay community” who are a bit overzealous about… what they do. Whatever it is. There are fanatics and zealots in any group. I think people fail to see that.
But I digress. …very far.
…
The end.
A conversation I once had:
[I mentioned I don’t go to church.]
Him: So, you’re not Christian?
Me: No.
Him: Oh, so I guess you’re one of those atheists! [he scoffs]
Me: No.
Him: Oh, so you’re “agnostic” [sarcastically]
Me: No.
Him: …what? Then what are you?
…
Now that’s obviously not every or any American [kid], but where I’m sitting [college-town suburbia] it seems to be a lot of them.
